The Blackfoot River
The Blackfoot is the water Norman Maclean wrote into A River Runs Through It, and it runs through one of the last undeveloped valleys in Montana. We guide day floats on it from April through October.
June and July bring the big stonefly hatches. The fish we're after are native westslope cutthroat, with browns and rainbows besides, and our guides know the valley well enough to put you where they're feeding.
For a longer stay, North Fork Crossing Lodge sits on the river's North Fork outside Ovando. Call Brandon or Elli about hatches and open dates.
